02: Hidden Voices, Winter 2018

 

The Eclipse was a tabloid newspaper produced by and for ordinary people who live and work in the nort-east of england.

With support from professional journalists and a diverse range of organisations the newspaper is powered by the Do It Ourselves Journalism courses which welcome participation regardless of age, ability or previous experience in journalism.

Initiated by Andrew Wilson and Jessie Joe Jacobs the Eclipse was produced in collaboration with many individuals, groups and organisations, especially Esther Beadle and ReCoCo.

BACKGROUND: Active from 2016-19, We Are Our Media (WAOM) has been a collaboration between many individuals, groups, and organisations.

Throughout this period WAOM hosted 2x free to access Do It Ourselves Journalism courses, more than 30x one-day workshops, as well as countless meetings and social gatherings, creating 2x 32page tabloid newspapers, The Eclipse, involving a diverse mix of more than 100+ contributors, and distributing more than 25,000 copies across the North-East of England.
